December 2014 Theme 2

Theme 2 - Inclusion & Exclusion
Since the last edition of the ChangingEmployment eNewsletter members of Theme 2 continued working on their common projects. In September during the ECPR General Conference in Glasgow the Theme 2 held a panel devoted to the migrants experience of changing employment. The Theme panel was attended by a small external audience, but it allowed the participants to go into the details of each other’s work in the discussion period. ESRs also conducted a meeting with the Theme Leader, Paul Stewart, about publishing plans and book progress. Besides, Theme 2 ESRs and ER attended in the individual project meeting with editors of the ECPR Press. During the meeting the book project was presented and it received a positive feedback from the editors, who encouraged the Theme to apply with their publishing house. It has been done in a subsequent month and currently ESRs are working on the individual and collective chapters, while the ER, Olena Fedyuk, is managing the whole submission and publication process. The working title of the book is: ‘Inclusion, exclusion and precarious employment in Europe: the story so far from the UK, Belgium, France and Poland’.

Moreover, the Theme members made use of the opportunity given by the 4th Network School in November in Wrocław and met a couple of times with the theme leaders in order to discuss the theoretical framework and methodological challenges of the planed special issue of the academic journal Focaal.

Theme 2 had also been actively cooperating and building links with another Marie Curie ITN INTEGRIM, which has very similar fields of interest and research. The last outcome of this cooperation is a joint Film-school which is taking place in the first week of December at the Central European University in Budapest.

The Theme plans for the future include the organisation of a session during the 12th Annual Conference of the European Sociological Association in August 2015 in Prague as well as concentration on the finalization of the currently run publication (book & special issue) and dissemination (video podcasts) projects.
