March 2015 Theme 1

Theme 1 - Management & Employees
Theme 1 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) have handed in an abstract for the International CRIMT Conference that takes place in Montreal, Canada, in May 2015. The abstract was accepted and Sara Lafuente (ESR1) will present the full paper in Montreal, co-authored by Mona Aranea (ESR 2) Dragos Adascalitei (ESR3). The paper deals with the decentralization of collective bargaining in the course of the crisis since 2008 and undertakes a comparative analysis of corresponding trade union strategies in Rumania and Spain. For Theme 1 members this is a great opportunity to combine and compare findings from their individual research in those countries. All Theme 1 ESRs are currently away from their home institutions for fieldwork or due to secondments with associate partners or partner universities. The high level of mobility in this Marie Curie ITN poses challenges to the co-ordination in Theme 1 but also provides for fruitful new insights that contribute to the fellows’ academic advancement both as individuals and as a group.

Theme 1 Experienced Researcher organized a three-day training event together with Professor Paul Stewart that took place in Malta between in March. A report from the training event can be found here. Although Maria’s contract as Theme 1 ER finishes in early 2015, she will continue working in the team as co-ordinator of the Theme 1 book project “Multi-level employment relations in times of change”.
