Education/Research Interests
Julia Kubisa obtained her Ph.D in the field of Sociology in 2011 at the Institute of Sociology University of Warsaw. The title of the Ph.D thesis was “White caps strike. Trade union activism of feminized occupational groups”. This examines women’s activation in Polish trade unions. It focuses on the position of nurses’ and midwives’ in Polish health care system and their patterns of protest, impact of health care system reform on work conditions and trade unions’ activity.

Her research interests are in the field of sociology of work, including gendered division of labour, labour relations in transforming economies, new patterns of employment and migrations and trade unions revitalisation.

Career
Julia has worked as an assistant professor at the Institute of Sociology University of Warsaw since 2012. She participated in various international research projects, including FP6 “PIQUE. Liberalisation and privatisation of public services in Europe” (2006-2009) and FP7 “COPE. Combating poverty in Europe” (2012-2015), and projects coordinated by Working Lives Research Institute (UK), e.g. “Precarious work amongst students in Europe (PRECSTUDE)” (2012) and University of Hertfordshire (UK) “International mobility of healthcare workers. Impact on the trade unions” (2012). In September 2014 Julia spend a month at the University of Vienna working on her research about gendered division of labour.

In January 2015, Julia took up the post-doctoral position in the Marie Curie Network “Changing Employment” at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
