Education/career/background
Ben joined KU Leuven as ESR, having previously completed an MA in international labour and trade union studies at Ruskin College (P/T, 2010-12) and a BA in politics at Leeds Metropolitan University (F/T, 2006-9). The masters programme culminated in a dissertation on trade union responses to irregular migrant labour in Italy in the UK, while the BA dissertation was on agency work in the UK. He has also been active in various trade unions, both as a lay activist and full-time officer, most recently as a regional organiser for the National Union of Teachers in the UK (2011-13). He is also a graduate of the TUC’s Organising Academy (2010).

Research interests
Building on previous research experience in academic and campaign settings Ben’s main research interests include the role of trade unions and their confederations in modern capitalism, agency and other forms of precarious work, migration, multinational enterprises and the role of competition in trade union organising.
