Background/Career
Karima studied political science and Polish studies at the University of Vienna. During her studies she focused on various migration-related topics. For her master thesis on ‚Polish care-workers in Austria. A contribution to the discussion about migrant domestic workers’ she was awarded the concept scholarship by the Research Platform Gender of the University of Innsbruck. In this research she conducted interviews with Polish, live-in, 24h care-workers and analysed the crucial intersectionality of class, gender and nationality. Shortly after the return migration phenomenon was observed in the UK, Karima analysed in her other master thesis weblogs of Polish return migrants and their transnational identities under the title ‘Remigration – the new Polish migration? A qualitative content analysis of Polish remigration-weblogs’.

In the past she has been working as academic and project related staff in community work in the field of asylum and integration of Caritas Vienna and has implemented various local and transnational integration projects targeting local population, migrants and refugees. She has spent some time in Poland studying at the Institute for Political Science of the University of Warsaw, at the Jagiellonian University and at the Cracow University of Economics and working as an intern at the Austrian Institute and at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw. She has also worked and completed internships in NGOs, social science research institutes and in a liaison office of local administration on European level in Brussels.

Accompanying her work in the field of asylum and integration Karima has completed various trainings on migration law and non-discrimination. She has contributed to various national and international conferences on the topics of migration, populism and also on Muslims in Austria.

Research interests
Karima’s main research interests are all aspects of migration, especially in connection with Poland, but also from outside the EU, and in this context mainly migration law and the social aspect of migrant lives such as employment, living and participation. Additional interests are gender, international politics, European integration, Eastern Europe and Muslims and Islam in Europe.
